As summer winds down, Be the Peace Institute is sharing some key updates on its ongoing work to address gender-based violence (GBV) in our eighth newsletter. Our Scaling the Summit working groups, involving 160 participants from 36+ organizations, continue building collaborative strategies on prevention, advocacy, housing, newcomer experiences, sector wellness, and more, with plans for a future GBV Innovation Lab. In April, we co-hosted the 2025 GBV Summit, gathering diverse voices to set sector-wide priorities, supported by our new Knowledge Synthesis Report that distills recommendations from major national and provincial inquiries. Provincially, Nova Scotia launched a Ministers’ Table on GBV, while federally, devastating 80% cuts to WAGE threaten critical equity and justice work. We are also urging the province to pause its plan to expand alcohol sales until impacts on GBV and community safety are assessed. Collaboration, investment, and collective action remain essential as we work toward ending GBV in all its forms.
