BTPI Strategic Planning Day

On September 23rd, 2023 BTPI Board and staff gathered with facilitator Arlene MacDonald of capitalW, charitable and nonprofit sector strategist and policy advisor, to strategize on how to create the conditions of success for our organization going forward. We worked to establish a shared understanding of our mission, our goals and how we can collaborate to thrive.

Our goals for the day included:

1. Critical review of Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles

2. Environmental scan (external ecosystem)/SPEETHS.

3. Critical assessment of the organization using appreciative inquiry & astrengths based approach

4. Identification of key strategic priorities over next 1-3 years aligned withecosystem & org capacity

5. Formation of Strategic Planning Working Group

6. Development of Action Plan

7. Ongoing review of Plan progress

8. Regular updates to Board of Directors

Who we are:

Vision

An end to gender-based violence in Nova Scotia. Gender equity in our systems and society. A more just and peaceful world for all.

Mission

We work to address the roots and consequences of gender-based violence and advance systemic change for gender equity and social justice.

Guiding Principles

BTPI Priorities:

  • System Reform

    • Contribute to the implementation of GBV policy at provincial & national levels.

    • Provide training to allied professionals in the GBV system.

    • Increase BTPI’s capacity and the capacity of the GBV sector to engage with government and with others working on systems change.

  • Organizational Sustainability

    • Strengthen the financial sustainability of BTPI.

    • Strengthen Board effectiveness.

    • Demonstrate impact.

    • Retain the skills/expertise required to do the work.

  • Becoming Anti-Racist

    • Increase cultural competence and understanding

    • Strengthen anti-racist practices

    • Amplifying voice

It was a great day of collaboration and connection and so nice to be together. We are excited by the possibilities ahead for BTPI!
